A presidential decree signed Yesterday Friday, November 30, gave birth to the National Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Committee (NDDRC). This committee has been created in other to solve the instabilities that Cameroon is facing since 2014 with Boko Haram and 2016 with the Anglophone Problem.

Since the Anglophone crises started, the different leaders representing “the struggle” as it is commonly called, have been asking for dialogue. But unfortunately, the different government officials that were sent by the Head of State Paul BIYA, failed to restore peace and security in the North-West and south-west regions. After his reelection, precisely during his swearing-in speech, he asked the Amba Boys to put down their weapons. Some of them started putting down their guns few days after (according to Bernard OKALIA BILAI, Governor of the South-West Region). But, they could not really trust the regional officials because according to them, they have been playing a double game. They were also afraid of the trials that they could go through if they surrender.

With the creation of this Disarmament and Reintegration committee, it is sure that if these fighters hiding in bushes drop their weapons, they will be fully followed and reinserted in the social life. There will be no risks of facing trials and being sentenced to many years imprisonment. But, it important to precise that this offer goes only for those who will voluntarily surrender. It also goes same for Boko Haram fighters originated from Cameroon.

The NDDRC will have its headquarters in Yaounde but will have regional centers in towns like Bamenda, Buea and Mora which are the main towns in the affected areas. “Peace cannot be negotiated while holding and using guns”. We hope that this committee headed by the Prime Minister and Head of Government Philemon YANG will be able to bring to Cameroonians, the peace that they had some years back and that they seek daily.
