How to implicate more women as DJs in the entertainment industry
Nowadays, the implication of women in every socioeconomical activity is a must. Feminists around the world say what ‘‘what a man can do, a woman can do more better’’. That’s how we gradually see women as practitioners in most sectors. The entertainment industry is not excluded. If you go round the world, you will see many female DJs. Some of them even do better than men and they even earn more as far as the pay is concerned.
In Cameroon, we have young girls aspiring to be DJs. All they need is the encouragement, guidance and training from those who master the milieu. It is within this framework, that GUINNESS Cameroon, through its Brand Smirnoff Ice, lunched the Smirnoff Ice Top 3 Female DJ Search countrywide for upcoming female DJs (Disc Jockeys) to showcase their talent and stand a chance to be promoted.
During a Press Conference helt in Douala on Thurday, 29th December 2022, Bertile ABEGA Brand Manager, said the Smirnoff Ice Top 3 Female DJ search compaign aims to narrow the gender gap and shine light on some talented female DJs. Many more female DJs are still needed across the country to address the imbalance through this competition.
It is a great opportuny for female DJs to launch their careers and it is a life changing opportunity giving the fact that they will be mentored by renown people like DJ Moyo and DJ Issa (co-founder at LORDID DJ school).
Smirnoff Ice therefore urges you all to vote for your favorite female DJ on www.smirnoffice.cm. You can vote as many times as you wish through the website, where more than 100 female DJs had registered nationwide and just 10 were retained for the final stage of the votes that will run from the 29th December 2022 to the 2nd February 2023. The winners (your favorits Top 3) will be crowned on the 9th March 2023 which will be the final day of the compaign where. This day is also celebrated as world DJs’ Day.
Voters get a chance to share the sum of 1 million Frs CFA each week and The winners get the opportunity to be trained during the 2023 edition of the MIAMI International Music Conference. The challengers are DJ Braxx, DJ Sandra, RAJ, DJ STARUS le mix au féminin, DJ marina, DJ Chinkong, DJ Tilda, DJ Diamond, DJarmy and DJ Bambi.
